A Letter From Lauren: September in Maine

A Letter From Lauren: September in Maine

I forget how much I love September until August ends, and I put on an old sweater I haven't seen in a few months. As we transition into the season where the morning air feels pleasantly crisp, we are looking forward to autumn activities and anticipating a robust real estate market. With interest rates hopefully "falling" as well, we expect September and October to be busy months before the seasonal market activity in Maine begins to slow down in November and December.

PRESENTING PENNYWHISTLE

28 Pennywhistle / Offered at $945,000

Here is one of my latest listings, 28 Pennywhistle Drive in Windham currently offered for sale at $945,000. This home was built by local builders Eric O’Connell and Nick Estes. The one-floor living home was stunning and spoke for itself, but I collaborated with local businesses Whitney + Co and Structure Media to take it to the next level. Watch the video to see more of what we did inside!

CELEBRATING 1 YEAR WITH EMILY SHAFFER

Ten years ago, while spending my summer as a counselor down a dirt road at a summer camp in Maine, I met Emily Shaffer. She was there from Pennsylvania to teach metal jewelry.

We were co-counselors for the senior girls in a cute cabin by the water called A-Frame for ten weeks.

Fast forward ten years, and Emily joined my real estate team, bringing a fresh perspective to serve our clients. She has been on my team for a year, and it has been such an amazing experience watching her navigate the ins and outs of the industry. She’s repeatedly been praised by our clients for her trustworthy demeanor and tireless dedication.

SPEAKING OF SUMMER CAMP, A RETURN TO MEDOLARK

In August, my family and I had the pleasure of returning to that summer camp down an old dirt road. My daughter, Mary, is a big fan of the movie The Parent Trap (both the original and the 1998 remake). I have no doubt she will attend summer camp when she's older, so when I saw that Medolark was having its first “Friends and Family Weekend,” I jumped at the unique opportunity for a family experience.

The camp's world-class Brazilian circus staff ran the weekend, and we learned acrobatics, clowning, and the flying trapeze. I was shaking from heights and hesitant to leap the trapeze, and my dramatics were quickly shown up by my 4-year-old daughter, who fearlessly climbed the ladder and jumped off the platform. Though the activities were a blast, the true highlight was returning to a timeless setting and reconnecting with directors and staff who have remained friends despite the years and distance.

Portland Block Party

Later in September, I’ll be hosting a "Block Party" at an upcoming listing (mystery address for now), where one of my repeat clients has their first flip project. We closed on the property in August, and he and his wife have been tirelessly working. I’m excited to have the home staged, and this event will feature catering from Lady Shuckers Oysters and Barry Larry’s Fried Rice, along with multiple raffles and great company.

Neighbors, clients, brokers, and industry professionals are all invited for an exclusive first look at the completed project. This event will give attendees a unique opportunity to see another upcoming project next door, which will be in its pre-renovation stage. One will be fully transformed, and the other will await its makeover.
